Mr. Mike Henning

Principal

From Mr. Henning:

I was born in Milwaukee, WI, on July 23, 1973. I attended kindergarten at a public school on Milwaukee’s north side, in 1978. This school was not to my parents’ liking. This urged them to seek other options for 1st grade. Since my father’s grandpa was a Lutheran, he sought out a Lutheran Elementary School (LES) nearby. Gloria-Dei-Bethesda Lutheran Church was the church and school on 95th & Capital Dr. that I attended from 1st grade through 8th. In 1987, I was confirmed in the faith also at Gloria-Dei-Bethesda.

In 1987, I began attending Wisconsin Lutheran High School (WLHS) in Milwaukee. I graduated WLHS in 1991. From there, I decide to become a Lutheran school teacher. I attended our WELS Synodical teacher training college located in New Ulm, Minnesota, then called Dr. Martin Luther College (DMLC). I attended there from 1991 to 1995 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education with a minor in social studies.

I received my first teaching assignment to St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Stevensville, MI, to teach 4th grade. In the summer of 1997, I was married to Carrie Hillmann and we began residing in Coloma, MI. Our daughter Mollie was born in Michigan in 1998, and I accepted a call to teach grades 5&6 in Caledonia, WI, in 1999. During our eleven years in Caledonia, we had three more children (Elijah in 2001, Jared in 2003, and Lucie in 2006). In 2010, I accepted a call to teach grades 3-5 and serve as principal in a newer LES in New Hope, MN. In 2011, I earned a Master of Science diploma from Martin Luther College (formerly DMLC) in Educational Leadership. I served in Minnesota for three years until accepting a call to serve as assistant principal and 7th grade teacher at St. John’s Lutheran School in Wauwatosa, WI, in 2013. In 2015, I completed coursework for attaining a WI state teaching license through Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC). In 2016, I accepted the call to be the principal and 7-8th grade teacher at Good Shepherd’s in West Allis. In 2023, I became the Principal at Christ Alone Lutheran School.
