Hot Lunch Program at CALS

Many of you have expressed a desire for a hot lunch program at our school. I am pleased to say that the school board has been working with Aldo’s Catering to be able to provide hot lunch meals starting on January 5th. The hot lunch program will provide nutritious meal options every day for students who are in school during their normal lunchtime. Judy Ketterer co-owns Aldo’s Catering company with her husband Dwayne and specifically works with smaller K-8 schools and daycares to provide lunch programs. We are very excited to work with her.

As some of you know from firsthand knowledge, starting a hot lunch program is not a small task. Below are details about what the program will look like initially and what will happen soon after. If you have any questions, thoughts, or ideas about the program as a whole, payment options or anything else school-related, please reach out to Zach Wood via email at or phone/text at (509) 200-5828.

January 2022 Menu

Cost and Ordering:

The cost of a meal is $3.75 and an extra entrée is $1.50. In the very near future, barring any unforeseen obstacles, we will have a way to order and pay for each month of hot lunch through our new website! For the month of January, however, we are going old school. A paper order form and a menu will go home with your student this Friday, December 3rd. This order form will be for the entire month of January and is due the following Friday, December 10th, along with payment. Every student will get an order form. Families may combine payments, but an individual form needs to be turned in for every student who will be taking hot lunch. Check payments must be turned in to the school office with the order form(s) and not separately. Checks should be written to Christ Alone Lutheran School.

Volunteers will be needed to serve food to students. We initially anticipate the maximum time commitment to be 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. All of the food arrives cooked and simply needs to be plated and served. Although this job only requires one person, we are asking for two people to be at school at 11:00 to serve lunch at 11:30 and noon. We are anticipating clean-up and prep for the following day could be completed well before 1:00 PM. Everything will be provided. Because this is new for all of us, for the month of January, we will make sure that no volunteer will be serving by themselves unless they are comfortable doing so.

A SignUpGenius form will be available. As volunteers emerge, we anticipate there will be some that want to make this a regular weekly task. If you would like to claim a spot once a week or for multiple days, do so quickly as spots are already being claimed via word of mouth.

Final Thoughts:

We hope to have the rest of this year to work out any kinks with our hot lunch delivery and schedule. As well as being something that can improve our current students’ school day, a hot lunch program is a great way for us to draw more students from our community. Starting this program is one step along the path of growth that we anticipate here at CALS. I understand that a weekly 1 ½ -2 hour-long commitment is not possible for all parents or church members. Most of us work during the day and many of us commute long distances. I challenge parents to pick one day in January to spend an
extended lunch hour serving your students. All of these students are part of our Christ Alone Family. Serving them is why we are all here in the first place. I look forward to working with many of you to grow God’s kingdom.

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
